Burned Out of Homes and History: Unearthing the Silenced Voices of the Tulsa Race Riots
This workshop will engage participants in the use of primary source documents (such as historic photographs and eyewitness accounts) to revisit the history of the Tulsa Race Riot of 1921. Participants will write interior monologues/poems, construct templates for persuasive essays about reparations to victims and survivors, and develop a framework for classroom inquiry into the implications of “omissions” from traditional textbooks.
