Ray Warren Symposium Tackles Race and Medicine

The 15th annual Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Ethnic Studies, which is organized entirely by students, will be held from November 7–9. This year’s theme is Bitter Pills: Race, Health, and Medicine, and will include keynote presentations, panels, an art show, and the Race Monologues. More details and a full schedule.

Student Photo Honored by The Washington Post

Out of more than 1,000 entries, Ella Bock BA ’19 won third place in The Washington Post’s Annual Travel Photo Contest. Bock took her award-winning photo while feeding birds on the Ganges River during her semester studying abroad on L&C’s India program. Read more.

Holiday Reception and Service of Sacred Song and Verse

Mark your calendars for a holiday reception on Saturday, December 1. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with hearty appetizers, holiday desserts, hot cider, cocoa, and wine in Frank Manor House with President Wim Wiewel and his wife, Alice. Albany Society members can get a head start on the evening at 5:30 p.m. The annual Service of Sacred Song and Verse will begin in the chapel at 8 p.m. More details.

Student Curators Look Back at 500 Years of Religious History

A new exhibit in Watzek Library, curated by Mae Johnson BA ’19, Sydney Owada BA ’19, and Emily Price BA ’18, features centuries-old religious texts in order to shed light on how annotation and translation affect society’s view of Christianity. Putting together the exhibit involved members of the religious studies, English, and history departments, and Owada says that it “demonstrates the value of interdisciplinary study—which is linked to the identity of Lewis & Clark as a liberal arts college.” Read more.

Homecoming and Family Weekend Recap

Alumni and families traveled from near and far to celebrate Homecoming and Family Weekend 2018. During this busy, wonderful weekend we celebrated the inauguration of President Wim Wiewel, cheered on Pioneer football, enjoyed clam chowder at the tailgate, learned from faculty at Pioneer Colleges, and welcomed six new members to the Board of Alumni.
