Dear Lewis & Clark Students,

Yesterday the College alerted employees about an opportunity that has arisen to vaccinate faculty and staff on campus in April. The decision to move forward with vaccinating eligible employees, or “frontline workers,” is predicated on the availability of doses, our goal of herd immunity, and Oregon Governor Kate Brown’s decision to move eligibility timelines up by two weeks.

“Frontline workers” includes employees of colleges and universities, such as Lewis & Clark, as well as employees of our on-campus partners Bon Appetit, A&A Maintenance, Ricoh, and Barnes & Noble. This also includes student employees. To be considered a student employee, a student must work at LC and complete monthly timesheets in order to be paid through payroll, or be working as a resident assistant. Students who only receive other payments from the College, such as stipends, are not considered student employees.

Although other students are not yet eligible, all persons 16 years of age and older are expected to become eligible no later than May 1. We are working on plans to make vaccines available to all students as soon as we can procure vaccine doses from Multnomah County.

On April 5, the state of Oregon will also open vaccine eligibility to some additional groups. These include individuals with certain underlying health conditions as well as students living in multigenerational households. (Note that on March 29, the CDC expanded its criteria for what qualifies as an underlying health condition.) Students who qualify for vaccination on the basis of an underlying health condition, as defined by the CDC, will be eligible for vaccination in the on-campus clinic on April 10. Stay tuned for details about sign-ups. As of April 5, these students may also sign up for a vaccination clinic off-campus.

Please watch your emails closely this month, as we sort out the logistics and timing of a potential student vaccination clinic. Thank you for all that you’ve done this year to promote and protect the health and wellbeing of our campus community.

Sincerely,

Robin H. Holmes-Sullivan
Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students
