Dear Students,

I am deeply saddened to inform you that your fellow student Roan Mulholland died unexpectedly yesterday after a sudden medical event on campus. We have been in contact with her family, roommate, and friends. It is a tragedy to lose someone from our community. And given the social distancing we are all practicing, we know this is a difficult time for you to process your grief.

We encourage students to connect safely with each other and with their support networks. For students who would like to speak with a counselor, a staff member from the Counseling Service will be available this evening in-person in the Platt-Howard main lounge from 7 to 9 p.m. Counseling staff will also be available virtually via this Zoom drop-in link on Sunday, from 1 to 3 p.m. (see below for more information). Resources for support this coming week include appointments with:

Counseling Service staff: call 503-768-7160

Spiritual Life staff: call 503-768-7085

Ombuds staff: call 503-768-7336 or email

Anytime the Counseling Service is closed, students in need of support may call our Crisis Counseling Service at 503-265-7804.

We know that this is very difficult news to hear. As we all struggle with this loss, please keep Roan and her family in your thoughts. In the upcoming days and weeks, we will decide how we might celebrate Roan’s life and time at LC.

With a heavy heart,

Robin Holmes-Sullivan, Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students

Bruce Suttmeier, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
